Inglorious Empire by Shashi Tharoor
Reading this book has been an eye opener. There is so much information I wasnt aware of or had no idea about.
The books gives you a information on deindustrialization of India, the reinforcement of caste and religious segregation, the railways and why British brought them to India, the suppression of Indian made goods, and the myth we were made to believe that all that was done was for our good.
It is written very well, and it is not a book of only regrets and blames. It also speaks about the shortcomings of the Indians and how we let many things happen to us. First thought that came to my mind while reading this book was why didnt we discuss this in school or home. Colonization has always been glorified, and attending a British established institution, I did not see anything bad being a part of the British Raj.
The book lets you see the world in a different way. I recommend reading it to gain a better understanding of Indian history and all that went into making her what she is today and will be tomorrow.
